This Saturday 26 April, the first clean-up diving trip of the year will take place in the Dutch North Sea. One of the activities of our Healthy Seas volunteer divers will be a visit to the ‘Pispottenwrak’, or Chamber-pot wreck, to recover its ghost fishing nets.

As planned, divers will continue the battle against lost gear by performing 28 clean-up dives in the Adriatic and the North Sea this summer. During these dives they will recover ghost nets and other fishing gear from many shipwrecks. Four additional trips are being planned in the North Sea with the Dutch company PAN Salvage. Because the trips are very dependent on good weather and a reasonably calm sea, last–minute cancellations are possible.

Keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates on the diving and salvage trips!

The Chamber-pot wreck is one of the 56 shipwrecks in the Dutch and Belgian North Sea. It is completely covered by all kinds of fishing nets and gear, which injure and kill many marine animals. This weekend, a team of 14 very experienced volunteer divers will clean as much of the wreck as possible. Little is known about the wreck, not even its real name. The ‘Chamber-pot wreck’ owes its name to the shipment of chamber pots that it was carrying.
