World Animal Protection, supported by the UN Environment Programme’s Global Partnership on Marine Litter, Aquafil and the Healthy Seas initiative, is building a Global Ghost Gear Initiative.

Innovative and effective solution projects exist around the world to reduce the amount of ghost gear in our seas. But these pioneering solutions are tackling only the tip of the iceberg and much more must be done to create global, sustainable change. Towards this goal, World Animal Protection (WAP) is founding a cross-sectoral Global Ghost Gear Initiative (GGGI) – a powerful alliance of governments, the seafood and plastic industries, intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations – that will save the lives of millions of marine animals and create safer, cleaner oceans.

A roundtable meeting to frame the objectives, structure and function of the Global Ghost Gear Initiative will take place on 13-14 November in Ljubljana, Slovenia. To obtain input from relevant parties, WAP created an online poll. Please let your voice be heard by completing this short Survey Monkey poll >>
