Introducing AFATO Surfwear as Our New Supporting Partner

We are thrilled to announce that AFATO Surfwear has joined the Healthy Seas Foundation as our latest supporting partner. AFATO, a brand dedicated to creating stylish and sustainable surfwear for women, aligns perfectly with our mission to protect and preserve our oceans. Their surfwear is crafted using ECONYL® yarn, a regenerated nylon made entirely from waste materials, including fishing nets recovered by Healthy Seas.

Diandra Stelljes, one of the founders of AFATO, expressed her excitement about the partnership:

Joining Healthy Seas perfectly complements our vision at AFATO—where sustainability meets surf style. The inspiration behind our brand, ‘As Free As The Ocean,’ reflects our deep respect and love for the sea. To us, it means preserving the ocean’s natural beauty and freedom by reducing pollution and promoting eco-friendly practices. By creating products that not only look good but also protect the environment, we honor the ocean that inspires us daily. Together with Healthy Seas, we can ensure that our beloved waters remain as free and pristine as they are meant to be.

About AFATO

AFATO is a sustainable surfwear brand for women, founded by friends Melina and Diandra, who share a passion for fashion and surfing. Their journey began while working for a German fashion brand, where their shared love for travel and surf adventures inspired the creation of AFATO. The brand was born from the realization that the perfect surf outfit—one that is comfortable, stylish, and wave-resistant—was missing from the market.

After six months of intensive research and design, Melina and Diandra found the perfect manufacturer in Bali, capable of bringing their vision to life. The name AFATO, derived from the inspiring quote “As Free As The Ocean,” encapsulates their goal: to design surfwear that empowers women, providing confidence and functionality without compromising on style. AFATO’s products are made from high-quality, eco-friendly materials, ensuring both optimal comfort and sustainability.

A Shared Commitment to Sustainability

At Healthy Seas, our mission is to protect and restore the world’s oceans through cleanup, education, and prevention of marine litter. Since 2013, we have been tackling the issue of marine debris, particularly abandoned and discarded fishing nets. Our collaboration with AFATO strengthens our efforts in marine conservation, promoting the circular economy and reducing ocean waste.

AFATO has also committed to donating a percentage of their sales to Healthy Seas, further supporting our initiatives to clean and protect the oceans.

Looking Ahead

We are delighted to welcome AFATO to the Healthy Seas family. Together, we will drive sustainable fashion, foster awareness, and contribute to preserving our oceans for future generations.

Thank you, AFATO, for your commitment to sustainability. We look forward to the incredible work we will accomplish together.
