“If the Ocean Could Speak” – Join Our New Campaign to Give a Voice to the Ocean

At Healthy Seas, we’re excited to unveil our latest initiative: “If the Ocean Could Speak.” This campaign aims to bridge the gap between humans and the ocean, fostering a deeper understanding of marine life and the critical issues our oceans face. By inviting creative expression, we hope to raise awareness, inspire change, and give a voice to the ocean.

The Concept

Imagine the ocean could speak. What stories would it tell? What challenges does it face, and what beauty does it hold beneath the waves? Our campaign encourages people of all ages to reflect on these questions and express their thoughts through various creative activities.

Participants are invited to engage in artistic expression that reflects their interpretation of the ocean’s voice. The French-Brazilian artist, Fábio de Sá, inspired* by the campaign, created a new concept of a collaborative artwork to craft origami envelopes. This concept allows a way of expressing ourselves through messages and art connecting education to artistic activities. These diverse approaches allow for a range of creative outputs and collaborations, each contributing to a broader dialogue about the ocean. Past activities include recorded messages from children (below) and more.

How You Can Get Involved

  • Join Our Workshops: We integrate “If the Ocean Could Speak” into educational events and workshops for all ages. These sessions offer hands-on opportunities to engage with the theme, whether through making art, writing messages, or participating in group discussions.
  • Get Creative: Use your imagination to create art that reflects your vision of the ocean’s voice. Decorate envelopes, craft visual art, or record a video message—whatever inspires you. Share what you believe the ocean would say if it could speak. Include your name, age, city, and country with your submission.
  • Share Your Message: Once your artwork or message is complete, submit it to us. We’ll document and share these contributions through our social media, events, and publications, amplifying the ocean’s voice and encouraging others to join the conversation.

Why This Matters

At Healthy Seas, one of our key goals is to combat ocean blindness—the disconnect many people feel from the ocean and its inhabitants. By prompting individuals to consider the ocean’s perspective, we hope to foster empathy and a greater understanding of how our actions impact marine environments.

This campaign offers a unique opportunity for people to connect in a creative, reflective way while considering the state of our oceans. Whether through school projects, community events, or online engagement, “If the Ocean Could Speak” stimulates meaningful conversations and inspires actions that benefit marine life and ecosystems.

The Power of Artistic Activism

Our artistic workshops are designed to channel passion and concern for the ocean into creative projects. Participants move beyond passive observation, engaging actively through art and conversation. This hands-on approach helps people forge a tangible connection with their creations, deepening their commitment to ocean conservation.
