Circular Economy and Textiles: A Teachers' Handbook Now Available in English

At Healthy Seas, we are thrilled to share a valuable new resource for educators: the Circular Economy and Textiles: Teachers’ Handbook, developed by our partners Eco-Schools Slovenia also with the support of Aquafil SLO. This comprehensive guide, now available in English, is an excellent tool for teachers aiming to incorporate sustainability into their lesson plans.

Originally published in Slovene as Krožno gospodarstvo in tekstilije, 2024, the handbook offers eleven lesson plans tailored to various age groups, from kindergarten to secondary school. Each activity is designed to inspire curiosity and deepen students’ understanding of circular economy principles, with a particular focus on textiles.

What’s Inside?

The handbook explores essential themes such as:

  • The environmental impact of textile production and consumption.
  • Practical approaches to sustainable living and responsible consumption.
  • Creative ways to integrate circular economy concepts into everyday learning.

In addition, the manual features visuals and examples highlighting Healthy Seas’ work, including ghost nets, marine litter, and the critical issue of entanglement. These elements provide students with real-world insights into the importance of marine conservation and the role of a circular economy in addressing environmental challenges.

A Valuable Contribution from Eco-Schools Slovenia

While this handbook was independently created by Eco-Schools Slovenia, we believe it aligns beautifully with our shared commitment to circular economy and environmental education. It could serve as an exciting and useful tool for many of our followers and the broader Healthy Seas community.

In fact, we’ve seen it in action during some of the educational activities we’ve organized with Eco-Schools Slovenia, where it generated tremendous excitement among students. The hands-on approach and engaging content captivated their curiosity and fostered meaningful conversations about sustainability and responsible consumption.
