On Wednesday 25th January, around 120 children and parents from the Annie M.G. Schmidtschool and day-care centre 2Samen participated in our Healthy Seas beach clean-up in the Netherlands. They bravely faced the cold for more than an hour, collecting over 330 kilograms of litter from the North Sea coast at Scheveningen. Upon return they weighed their bags at the surf school Hart Beach and received a welcoming reward: a hot chocolate!

Although the beach looked relatively clean at first sight, everybody was amazed at the amount of litter collected in only an hour. With our beach clean-up activities we want to raise the children’s awareness of the problems of marine litter. Also, and even more so, we want to show them the link with their own behavior and how they can be an active part of the solution.

More than 80% of marine litter comes from land. We can all help to stop it!
